Post-Operative MLD
Post-operative MLD is used to support recovery following surgical procedures. The treatment involves gentle movements that stimulate lymphatic circulation, assisting in the removal of excess interstitial fluid and reducing post-operative oedema. MLD also helps improve tissue healing, decrease discomfort associated with swelling, and support the recovery process.
Treatment should only commence once medically appropriate and in accordance with your surgeon's or healthcare provider's recommendations. As post-operative swelling is typically greatest during the first week, 2–3 treatment sessions per week are recommended during this period. Thereafter, 1–2 sessions per week are generally advised until oedema has resolved and further treatment is no longer clinically indicated. The frequency and duration of treatment will be determined by the surgical procedure performed, the extent of swelling, and the individual's rate of recovery.
All treatments are adapted to the patient's stage of healing and are provided within the therapist's scope of practice to support safe and effective post-operative rehabilitation.
Following each session, personalised aftercare and any compression garment advice which may be required will be provided to support your recovery and help achieve the best possible outcome.
